Monday started with a huge blow.

An opportunity that I had worked for prayed for and flown literally halfway across the world to secure dissolved in only a few hours. Life stayed true to its recurring pattern of storms and uncertainty.

What do you do when you are faced with a heartbreaking reversal?

Do you blame, shame, or get angry? If so, you come by that honestly. This response is baked into the human condition and at the heart of our egos!

There's another path.

After gathering myself at a Toronto coffee shop, I sat in all of the pain of the present. Over the last 5 years, I have become ridiculously good at sitting in the midst of un-preferred circumstances with an open heart.

This isn’t easy. It can be painful, trying, and demanding. But I’ve found that cognitive toolsets (conceptual frameworks, strategies, to-dos, etc) can provide invaluable support.

So I created an acronym like a silly business influencer – “ARC”

Use this tool if you're facing something difficult. It’s a powerful way to face impossible situations with courage.

Here’s what you do:

ARC

  1. Acknowledge the blow.
